I've had these headphones for about three years now. their lacquered wooden cups are something else and absolutely stunning. the sound follows in the same style and grabs your attention with its liquid sound. the midrange is slightly forward and the headphone is a bit bass-shy, but is relatively balanced and you hear everything in the music. I prefer the L3000 over this headphone in most cases, but there are times that the W2002 sounds better.

The ATH-W2002 are a wonderful headphone if you are able to find a pair. They are my headphone of choice. Their sound quality and comfort is second to no dynamic headphone. They have the great quality of being thoroughly engaging. If the music playing is relaxed, laid back, and romantic, they convey that feeling very well. If the music is powerful, fast, in our face, the W2002 are right there showing that. They are thoroughly transparent, and tend to play exactly what they are given. The comfort is amazing. My main issue is actually the paranoia of damaging or scratching them. They are simply too beautiful, and rare to risk damage. Unfortunately the sound quality is too amazing NOT to listen. :-)

Highly recommended if you have the coin.

***EDIT***

The portability score was determined from the fact, that these headphones are satisfactorily powered by an iPod. The high efficiency and low impedence allows this. These headphones can be termed "lugable". I personally utilize them at work.
